Need Space? Check Out These Ideas to Get That Much Needed Breathing Area!

Space..space..space. I’ve been challenged by this ever since I had my very own room, it went on until I lived in a cramped apartment, and continues to bug me as I manage my own house – seriously, is there any room with enough space? Or am I just in need of some Marie Kondo? Regardless, below are some hardware items in Cavite I found helpful in getting that much needed space:

1. Under-Bed Storage Bins

Be it plastic, woven, or wood, these storage bins work magic in hiding things under the bed. Just be mindful of the dirt that can accumulate over time.

2. Vacuum packs

Bulky linen, sheets, and covers? Save space by storing them in vacuum packs. These can also double up as space savers when traveling.

3. Above-Door Shelf

No extra space goes unnoticed, yes. That space above your door can store towels and other essentials children should not be able to reach. You can make this a DIY project – just go to your local hardware store, buy some plywood, nails, your choice of Boysen or Davies paint, and some muscles and time to spare, and you’re set!

4. Headboard Mini Bookshelf

This idea saves books from damage accidents especially if you are like me who literally reads to sleep 🤷 You can reuse thin wooden cabinets and place them as a headboard. Just splash some paint to match it with your bed and voila!

5. Tension Rod Shoe Rack

This is as easy as it appears. I just bought a tension rod from my local hardware in Cavite and my shoes found their new home. Displaying those shoes would surely make some husbands shake their heads though – could we women really have enough shoes?

6. Floating Desk

This one is a bit trickier compared to the other items, but it sure does hit the aesthetics and function points. Grab any type of material for your desk – coco lumber, plywood, or any plank – and some cables and wires along with preferred paint or varnish and mount it on a wall or window.

7. Mirror/Accessory Organizer

Talk about accessibility and smart space use. You can double up the function of your mirror by hiding your accessories inside it. DIY it if you may – hooks, screws, and the likes can be bought from your local hardware store.

8. Hanging Storage Organizers

Free up some floor space by using hanging organizers. These also make your essentials ready to grab as you need them. Again, go for DIY if you’re feeling crafty. Let your imagination flow with any material and head on to any hardware in Cavite and DIY away!

9. Platform Bed

This one’s a personal favorite. Our platform bed doesn’t look like the one in the picture, but it’ll surely do so once I get the supplies from my local hardware store in Cavite 😉

10. Storage Ottoman

Ottomans should be a staple for homes with kids, I guess (just imagine the toys you can just dump and hide away!)

11. Rolling Carts

These carts just rolled away my storage problems when the baby came. Apart from the ease of access, it can be placed anywhere in the room where it’s most needed.

12. Pegboard

Don’t limit that pegboard to keys and notes. Make it more useful by adding containers for pens, tapes, and other essentials. You can also use it as a design statement by putting your houseplants as display.

What a list! Do not forget all these can be bought (or at least the materials to DIY them) from any hardware in Cavite, so what’s holding you back? Create the space you’ve been looking for 😊
